Marketing to the SHTF preper. It's time for a mindset shift.

I have long been preparing for an SHTF scenario for many reasons which I hope to expand upon later.  One of the most difficult things to get around is the common marketing to prepers and the things you will need and don't need.   First thing I want to say is SHTF is not camping and it't not backpacking.  Chances are you will be staying put(more on this later).  SHTF prepers should focus on things like cost, shelf life, effectiveness,  trade/barter.  Backpackers for instance think much less about cost and focus on weight and compactness.  

Most camping gear is very expensive.  People pay a premium for compactness, coolness, and particular brand names.  Lets look at some examples.   Take a flint fire starter:
